Mass Effect_Ari'iaana-Virmire_Shepard.Vs.Saren_Goodbye_Friend

Mass Effect

Squeezing back her feelings and freezing her breaking heart, Shepard moves on, moves forward... and heads straight into a Geth attack with Saren himself at the head.

She saves Ash and Kirrahe's team from them, but the Turian himself appears to take Shep out himself. Somehow he ends up standing his ground and attempts to convince her to understand what he is doing... that what is coming is inevitable and she is wasting her time. He somehow genuinely believes that submission to the Reapers will help save himself - even everyone.

To anyone sane, he is clearly indoctrinated by Sovereign. He also clearly knows it to - but is in complete denial about it. Some parts of his absolution in this wavers, but he still insists on believing that this is his only chance of survival.

After wavering, his tactic suddenly changes and he attacks Shepard again. She breaks down his defences, but he retaliates and tries to throw Shep off the top of the building - but luckily in that moment the warning alarm chimes for the bomb go off and Normandy comes to her aid.

It flies off as Kaidan stands alone against the rest of the geth...

The nuke explodes. Kaidan has succeeded and dies a hero, breaking Shepard's heart, yet knowing she made the best decision she could have made under the circumstances. Everyone else came home - and Kaidan would have wanted that.

Back on the Normandy, they all mourn the death of a good friend, colleague, and fellow officer. But there is little time to mourn. Liara imagines that she can help by joining minds with Shep again... and this time she has a breakthrough with the new information from the second Beacon. She now knows the most important thing - what they always wanted to know:

The Conduit is on Ilos.
