A geth dropship hits the base and floods the research facility with Geth troops - too many to fend off. Ashley and Kirrahe's team are off on one side, and Kaidan and the bomb are on the other... They all know Shepard is the only reinforcement available... and that she can only go to one.

Before the Geth drop, Kaidan rigs the bomb - now it is set to explode no matter what... and he wants his dear Shep to save Ash and Kirrahe's team whilst he fends off the Geth long enough from the bomb for everyone to escape.

It breaks her heart, but Shep knows he's their only real hope of escaping. She must sacrifice the one for the many, and she knows the man Kaidan is - and this is who he is.

She makes the hardest choice of her life... and lets him go.
