Shep goes to speak to Liara after her overwhelming exhaustion took the young Asari to the Med Bay to recover. Shepard is making sure she is all right, and looking to continue to speak with her regarding the Protheans.

Speaking with Liara, it initially seems to Shep that she is simply a vessel that carries the Prothean data she received.... Despite the fact Shepard doesn't feel romantically attached to Liara, she is still very interested in her as a close friend because she likes and admires the sweet young Asari... So she is hurt to think that Liara only sees someone who has been given insight into the Prothean beacon.

But then Liara fully admits her attraction to her, and she is taken aback by this. She reacts badly and leaves immediately, but behind that she is secretly surprised by the fact Liara sees her as a whole person... Perhaps they can be real friends yet.
