Commander Shepard meets an old friend... and the first time she sees her, her friend is threatening a human with the very words she heard the Asari's mother say to her just before she was attacked by the Matriarch's Commandos.

Shepard is quite shocked to see what the demure and sweet young Asari had come to be in the two years she was away. The young, innocent, nervous, socially awkward palaeontologist had now somehow become a threatening and powerful biotic, and one of the most influential people in Illium. The darkness inside her was almost overwhelming... and something had clearly happened to her since Shep had been gone to undertake such a personality change. Shep doesn't like it, but she doesn't press the matter too hard. Not yet, anyway. She would wait, see where this goes, then she will ask her questions if they weren't already answered naturally.

So... Liara T'Soni a cold-blooded and deadly information broker...?  Shep can't help but wonder what in the universe happened to her old friend in the past two years to turn her into this... But it was quite clear from Liara's reaction that her death had affected her a lot.
