Shepard visits Thane at Huerta Memorial Hospital... just in time. The hospital is filled with desperately ill people, but they still found a bed in a side room for the Drell hero who saved the Councillor's life.

Forgetting he had been registered under a different name, the medic she talked to didn't know him at first. Then he realised who she was talking about and finds the records under the given name, and speaks to Shepard about him. It turns out that the illness he already had made it impossible to save him.

She visits him during his final breaths. She stands with him, alongside his son Kolyat, and prays with them, to their gods. In what turns out to be a prayer for herself.

Clearly holding on to see her, and to say this prayer with her to Kalahira, Thane lasts only until she is done. Then, he takes his last breath and leaves them to take his final journey across the sea.
