Apparently there is life on Mars... and it's Cerberus. They're busy executing the employees of the Mars Archive... and Shepard wasn't about to let that continue. After another is shot dead, she takes out the head of the executioner in a fit of poetic juistice, then they face the few that's left over.

There aren't many of them. Only another half-dozen or so are waiting further in, next to the archives' entrance.

Ashley is immensely suspicious of the "coincidence" of this, and questions her Commander about it. It even puts a little doubt into James' head... But Shepard doesn't really have time for their speculations. She just concentrates on getting into the Mars Archives.
