Shepard and her original Normandy team fight their way through the Mars base to reach the Prothean Archives. There are many Cerberus troops, but given they had been fighting fluidly together as a team for a long while previously, they continued just where they left off - and Cerberus didn't stand much of a chance.

Every step they took showed the destruction caused by the Cerberus troops... and it gave Shepard a feeling of unease that there was something more disturbing going on that in initially looked like.

They managed to get open a door to get outside, but the storm was hitting and the sand was harsh. Luckily their armour barely felt it, although it was rather hard to see outside the helmet with it kicking up such a standstorm. It was also breaking up comms links, and What little she could make out of James' scattered message, she figured that he had already lost communications with Normandy.

Pressing on, they see the worst so far of what Cerberus has done - specifically Dr. Eva Coré. She had shot guards and opened the airlock to the mess hall, where everyone in there had suffocated within seconds once they had been opened. Liara felt sick - she had - vaguely - known the woman for a week, yet she had never picked up on anything that would make her seem like an undercover Cerberus operative, and blames herself for all the death that Coré caused, until Shepard speaks to her.
