At the Huerta Memorial Hospital, on her way to see Kaidan, Shepard is shocked to find Thane Krios right there, by the window, working out some basic moves.
Her heart doesn't know what to do - she cares for him, probably loves him, and there he is. Alive, safe, fairly well, and quite active.
But Kaidan... was just along the way... recovering. But Kaidan still wasn't happy with her. Probably would never really forgive her. So in that moment she is standing there she decides to embrace whatever time she has left with Thane and go and see him again.
One more chance to see him, possibly before it was too late.
Kaidan was recovering and Thane was dying. One was barely speaking with her, and the other was in love with her. Somehow, that irony made things feel like things just didn't seem fair.
