Mass Effect 2_Ari'iaana-Normandy_Conversations

Mass Effect 2
Shepard takes some down time after taking down Morinth. After some breathing time to herself - feeding her fish and checking in on Space Hamster Alenko -  she goes to check on Samara and speaks to her about doing the unimaginable: Killing her own child.

Samara is saddened but relieved that her own 400 year mission has now been completed, and now she can rest in peace - and stare into the threat of a one-way suicide mission with freedom and clarity. She is more than grateful to Shep for helping her reach such a place and live in more peace.

Leaving Samara to her own thoughts again, Shepard visits with Thane. She has more questions for him, having not really understood the last conversation. This conversation doesn't go much better... the Drell is amazingly philosophical, enigmatic, beautiful, deep... She highly enjoys his company and is undoubtedly his friend, and she still yet finds him entirely fascinating and confounding at the same time. She enjoys their talks and very much enjoyed this one.

The talk is a stark contract to Jack - squirrelled away in the bottom of the Engineering Deck with her dark thoughts and traumatising memories. She's done almost anything anyone can think of... and despite her bravado, her demeanour still gives away that she's not exactly proud of it. It's just stuff that happened, that she did, over the years she's been trying to exist and survive.

Just as Shep is leaving, her facade breaks for a moment once again, and actually thanks Shep for being interested enough to ask all her questions. Shep is more than happy that she's breaking through to the "real" Jack underneath all that pain.

She can relate. She can understand where Jack is coming from... she hasn't had the best times in her life either, had no one to fend for her when she was growing up on the streets of London, or when she ran with the violent gangs... but then she found the Alliance and found herself a home and a family. Jack has always had nothing and no one... but now Jack has them. Even Miranda would come to kick a Reaper in the butt on the battlefield if it came after Jack. So she's working hard to make sure that she's there for Jack, and that Jack knows she's interested in being friends - real friends. She's genuinely interested to know... even if she doesn't quite like or understand the answers she gets.
